How to create consistent passive income and make money online without launches, sales calls & selling expensive products (+ our Content – Freebie – Offer template)

Do you ever want to invest in that new course or business coaching program, or copywriter for your page, but at the same time you are afraid to spend the money?

Maybe you’re operating on that shoestring budget; stressed that you wouldn’t be able to make an investment back because your current business situation doesn’t bring in a steady reliable income as it is.

Refusing to invest in yourself and your business can lead to the biggest trap business owners fall into: staying too long in the early stages of building a business because you don’t make enough money online despite all of your effort.  

It’s the feeling of being so afraid to invest and fail that actually keeps people in a vicious cycle of failure and no results. So, they end up exhausting themselves to the point that they are so burned out that they simply can’t keep their business afloat.

You know, the hamster wheel shit. And honestly, we know how it feels, because we’ve done that too…

The hard truth about running an online business

Here’s the hard truth: when we just started out (back in Poland, Europe), we thought that every new business needs to go through this bootstrapping phase with trading long-hours of hard work for future gains. We were waiting for our perfect clients. You know, the ones who would buy our signature products for thousands of zlotys (a.k.a. Polish dollars 😉 so we can finally make money online.

Let me tell you – it wasn’t easy, and we’re sure you can relate. When you’re figuring your business out – what you want to do, who your perfect audience is, what should you offer them – it’s hard to get everything just right. You just don’t know all the details yet. And when that happens, there’s no way to build the big product; a course, or any other offer. Something that would bring big bucks. You just don’t really know what product to create, the offer, how to price it, how to structure it. Heck, you probably don’t even have an audience.

When we started out, we weren’t ready for a “signature offer” that we could launch and make a gazillion dollars with. We had literally zero sales skills. Creating big info-products took loads of time and felt so overwhelming. In addition, we were just learning everything about having an online business. What makes matters even worse is that you don’t have the money to invest in marketing, so you don’t get the traffic you want, so you don’t make money, so you don’t have the money to invest.

And this sucked big time! (Not to mention it was a totally unnecessary waste of time and money.) We left our very well-paid corporate jobs to make money online, and we just had to make it all work!

That’s why we’re obsessed these days with getting to the point of financial peace of mind in the  right away. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The solution to passive online income

Fortunately, with time, we have come up with a solution that brought us consistent passive income without launches, sales calls & selling expensive products that (let’s be honest here) are hard to sell. I mean, if you don’t have a perfect offer-audience match, it will be hard to create and sell your “signature” $1k+ product.

What worked great for us was passively selling just a few smaller, cheaper products offered on a constant basis instead of a one big $1k+ product.

And let’s keep it real… when you’re still “fresh” in the business, learning the ropes, testing your business ideas to make money online, it’s just way easier to start with a smaller step you are ready for than getting all overwhelmed with “going big” that you end up not making any move at all. Would having some consistent passive income that gives you some stability help? Obviously!

Start with a paid ebook. It’s so much easier and quicker than creating a vast and overwhelming course with a complicated kick-ass marketing funnel. It’s so much more effective to have a simple sales process with a few steps rather than an elaborate sales process and follow-up sequence. Does that make sense?

Again, the idea is super simple. Build a foundation for your business to get you consistent cash-flow and passive income. At the same time, you can build your audience and grow your business by offering simple products/offers that don’t really need much “selling.”

Here are the steps we always take to make this work for us:

  1. Brainstorm topics for your products. Think about the actual questions people often ask you. The problems or challenges that your ideal clients may face that you can help them solve. What’s the #1 BIG, painful thing or obstacle they want to avoid? Think about the topics that are evergreen, so that you wouldn’t have to change or update your products all the time.
  2. Pick the idea with the biggest potential that you can create right now. Our favorite way is to ask our audience to vote for the subject they want the most. If you don’t have the audience yet, don’t stress about it. Just do some online research – visit Quora, google trends, Facebook groups and…follow your gut.
  3. Name your C-F-O. Well, not the person who does your financial stuff. In this case, it stands for Content – Freebie – Offer. Okay, let us explain wtf it means.
  • Content for us usually means a blog post or a Facebook video or post. But it can be any other valuable piece of material that you can direct people to. For example a podcast, a video, etc. The idea is that people can go through it and want to get more good stuff like this from you. Because most of the people who land on your website do not know you, you want to make a good first impression. At this point, you are not selling anything. It’s like a date – don’t ask for a first kiss the first minute you meet. You know what I’m talking about.
  • A freebie is an extension of the content that people can get in exchange for their email address. Again this should be so good that people want to get even more stuff from you. This is how you build your email list, baby! So for example, if you write a blog post about the best used-BMWs below $20K you can buy, your freebie would be a detailed instruction on what to pay attention to when purchasing a particular model. After having read your blog post, your readers will be dying to know how to spot a winner!
  • The offer, in this case, is a low price (under $100) paid product. It’s kind of entry-level offer. It makes people get used to buying from you. And it helps you get the regular income that pays for your ads & basic bills, so you don’t have to stay in the survival mode all the time. That’s why it’s often called a self-liquidating offer (SLO) as it offsets your expenses on advertising and stuff. This smaller offer can be followed up with a bigger offer once your audience is warmed up and you’re ready to create a full-blown thing; like a much more detailed online course, mastermind, 1-on-1 service, or whatever you will think of.

You’re building the foundations that can hold your future empire without doing the stuff that you may not be ready for yet. How cool is that, right?

So now that you know what it is let’s get to actually figuring out your C-F-O. You need to figure out what they will be and give titles to all three in a way that they are in line with each other. So if a person is interested in a topic, they will naturally want to go through your content, then download the freebie that complements it, and finally pay for the offer that is the logical next step to help them out.

We use a simple template. What helps us is thinking about the C-F-O before you start putting the content together – once you have the headlines and the flow, it is easier to sit down and come up with a table of contents, discussion points, etc. And then, once you have a table of contents, you start writing/recording the video to talk about those points.

  1. Create your Content & Freebie. The idea is to turn page visitors into email list subscribers. So every time you think about a piece of content, also make sure there’s always a freebie to go with it. At this point, if the topic you picked earlier was a pure guess, not supported by any real interest from your potential customers, you may want to wait a bit before you start creating the offer. The thing is: you don’t want to waste time creating stuff people are not interested in. What you can do, however, is to start driving traffic to your content and look at the numbers. If visitors are downloading your freebie, it’s a good sign they are interested in the topic. If they’re not, try tweaking the titles and/or creating other pieces of content in this area to find the one that gets people interested. Don’t worry if you’re not right from the start. Testing is the name of the game. And believe us, you may be surprised by what kind of content people get crazy about. Once you get a fair number of subscribers, you can ask them if they’re interested in a particular type of a product before you start creating it. Yes, it will take some time to get traction and see some data so you can make educated decisions in the future. But the positive side of it is that you are already building your brand and relationship with your subscribers.

PRO TIP: Never create any paid offer before you know people will buy it.

  1. Create your Offer. Once you have a good understanding of the offer people are interested in, start creating a small product. Don’t go wild. It shouldn’t be anything crazy big. An actionable e-book, a mini-course, an online master class, a consulting session, etc. Got it? Now offer it to the people who downloaded your Freebie. Again keep testing, tweaking, and optimizing. Yes, we do it this way too.
  2. Automate it. Once you figure out what works, get some more traffic using paid ads (we usually use Facebook Ads) driving new people to your content, and automated email sequence that warm people up & present your product. This way, you’ll have a process that works for you, even if you are busy doing other things. And the cool part: get the financial peace of mind. The constant monthly passive income that you can rely on without spending a shitload of time & money on marketing.
  3. Repeat it. So here’s the best part: you can have more than one C-F-O’s! In fact, you can have as many as you want. Our best practice is to stick to up to 3 big topics (for example: getting clients, leaving 9-to-5, and tech part of online biz), each with 1-2 freebies, and adding new pieces of content that go well with those topics. This way, you’re keeping it fresh and at the same time increasing your chances of finding a piece of content that hits the spot.

Okay, so that’s it. This is exactly the way we plan, create, and sell our products and create some good sources of passive income. And OMFG it works!
